About Le Touroulet Campsite This peaceful site is located in a quiet valley in the north of the Dordogne in rural France. The campsite comes with it’s own lake, stream and woodland. There are no busy roads here and, although the nearest village is only 20mins walk away you will only hear the peaceful and traquil sounds of the campsite and the river. The River Touroulet ambles through site making small pools where you can see the fish basking in the sun. It is heaven for paddling on a hot summers day and lovely for children to play in its shallow waters. Hens and ducks roam free on our land. We have 2 pet sheep and this years lambs which were born in April. Our cats and much loved dog, Aron, adored by most children, will welcome you. You will hear the night jars in the spring nights and see kingfishers and herons on the river. The man made lake is ideal for small boats and we have a dingy available to take out on its waters. The far side has banks where fishermen (and women and children) can spend a pleasant hour fishing and share a tale over a glass of wine in the evening sunshine. The grounds afford plenty of space for playing outdoor games. There is an outdoor table tennis table and a small above ground swimming pool, as well as indoor Dart boards. We organise competitions in the summer and children’s Sports Days as well as run our famous barbecues, joined by locals and where we welcome people to bring their guitars and other musical instruments to join our evening soirees. There are children’s swings and a slide and in the woods above the site we have built a wooden fort and Wendy house where your children can roam and play safely. The mill itself is over 2 hundred years old and retains all the old machinery of the flour mill. It is not only our home but also houses it’s own bar and restaurant, popular with locals as well as campers. |
